Announcement No. 5/2024 on Trademark Registration from the Department of Intellectual Property

The Department of Intellectual Property, under the Ministry of Commerce, has issued this announcement in relation to the Trademark Law, which came into effect on April 1, 2023. According to Section 94 of this law, “trademark registration must be carried out in accordance with this law, regardless of what is prescribed in any other existing legislation.” As a result, all individuals and businesses aiming to secure their trademark rights are required to register their trademarks following the procedures outlined by the Department of Intellectual Property.

This announcement serves as a formal notification for anyone seeking trademark protection, emphasizing that applications must strictly adhere to the department’s requirements to ensure a valid and recognized trademark registration. It also underscores the continued enforcement of Myanmar’s updated intellectual property regulations, fostering transparency and legal certainty in all trademark-related matters.
