Trademark Search in Myanmar: Scope and Limitations
A Myanmar trademark search can help an instructing firm or brand owner identify potential obstacles before filing. The report is most useful when the mark, goods and services and the coverage of the search are understood together.
Records available for our searches
At present, our trademark searches in Myanmar are limited to records under the new trademark registration system that have already been published by the Intellectual Property Department (IPD). Applications that have been filed but not yet published are outside the scope of the search. Accordingly, the absence of a conflicting mark in the search results does not guarantee that no earlier application exists or that the proposed mark will be accepted for registration.
Identical and similar marks
Our review considers identical and similar marks in the available records in relation to the relevant Nice classes and goods or services. The mark should be supplied in the form intended for filing, rather than as an informal description or an earlier artwork version.
Assessment beyond an exact match
The report also considers registration risk, including distinctiveness, descriptiveness and potentially conflicting marks with reference to sections 13 and 14 of the Trademark Law 2019. Finding no identical entry is therefore not the end of the assessment.

We present the search results and registration risk assessment in a report, with recommendations where appropriate. Read the observations alongside the scope stated in that report, and raise any known competing marks or additional background before deciding how to proceed.
Information that helps the review
- The proposed mark in a clear and complete representation.
- The intended goods and services and proposed Nice classes.
- The applicant details and any known marks of concern.
- Any planned changes to the sign or the commercial scope.
